National CPR & AED Awareness Week is the perfect reminder that lifesaving skills are not just for healthcare professionals — they are for everyone. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people experience sudden cardiac arrest, and immediate action can make the difference between life and death.
High-quality CPR helps keep blood and oxygen flowing to the brain and vital organs until advanced care arrives. When CPR is started quickly, survival rates can double or even triple. That’s why CPR training is so important for schools, businesses, gyms, sports facilities, churches, and families alike. Knowing what to do in those critical first moments can save a friend, coworker, teammate, or loved one.
Equally important is the availability and use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). AEDs are designed to be simple, safe, and effective for anyone to use during a cardiac emergency. These devices analyze the heart rhythm and deliver a shock if needed, helping restore a normal heartbeat. The faster an AED is used, the greater the chance of survival.
This week is a great opportunity to ask yourself:
- Is there an AED nearby?
- Do employees or family members know CPR?
- Is your AED program up to date and rescue ready?
Preparedness saves lives. By investing in CPR training and ensuring AEDs are accessible and properly maintained, we can all help create safer communities and be ready when every second counts.
